October 22, 2009
In September, we were invited by the Philadelphia Flyers organization to set up an information table about Pennies at the October 22 game at the Wachovia Center. This turned out to be quite a bit more than just being invited to tell people about Pennies and the research. That night, during the game, the Flyers organization honored Uschi as a Community Teammate. This is a special Flyers program where they recognize individuals or groups such as firefighters, policemen, rescue workers, or just everyday heros like teachers or community leaders who are making positive contributions to the local community. During the second period of the game, there was a presentation on the Arenavision scoreboard complete with photographs, honoring Uschi as a cancer survivor, and for how she has dedicated her energies to supporting finding a cure for cancer. Then she was presented with a personalized official Flyers jersey. The crowd gave her quite a roar - she was very touched and excited!
